The Fair Shares Fun Day

Wow, that turned out to be an incredible day; the sun shone, people came and everyone left with a smile.

The day started with the High Sheriff, Andrew Tabor, opening the event alongside one of our participants Laura. When asked to say a few words, Laura just said “I’ve never had so many friends in my life before”. What a perfect way to start – It reminded us all of what Fair Shares tries to do!

The day saw over 500 people coming along to take part in activities, peruse the stalls, taste the variety of food, meet friendly people, have fun and find out more about Fair Shares (oh and also possibly get face painted, play basketball, paint some pots, plant some plants, sit in a fire engine and jump on a bouncy castle too). It was really good to see such a huge turn out from the local community and even better it was great to see how much people were enjoying themselves.

We also had lots of encouraging feedback after the event.

Thank you so much for inviting St James Church to take part in the Fair Shares Fun Day. It was lovely to meet so many different people and organisations from the local area and to see everyone having such a good time without the pressure to spend lots of money.
It was a truly wonderful event that brought lots of people together to have fun – thank you Farhanah, and Fair Shares – brilliant!

I think that the event was a great success! It was really busy and the people that I spoke to were all very positive about it. I thought it was a lovely way to get people together across the community and also to let people see what the Friendship Café and Fair Shares have to offer.

Labour Councillor for Coney Hill

The day couldn’t have happened without all the support and help from people in the community. Whether it was a donation of chickens for the bbq or giving an hour to deliver leaflets, everyone contributed to making this a special day, and we can’t thank everyone enough for all their time and effort. We do just have to make a special mention of Farhanah who took it upon herself to be the main organiser for the fun day. She did an amazing job and I know everyone agrees. Most amazingly she managed to coordinate such a huge group of people to run a perfectly smooth event.

It really highlights what can be done when people come together to do something positive for the whole community!

Right… so what do we do next?
