Transforming Local Infrastructure in Gloucestershire

Infrastructure organisations in Gloucestershire have won a grant from the Office of the Third Sector to help them transform the way they support frontline groups and make their services more effective and sustainable.

A consortium, led by GAVCA, has been awarded funding under the "Transforming Local Infrastructure" (TLI) programme, which is being delivered by the Big Fund, the non-Lottery funding arm of the Big Lottery Fund. The aim of TLI is to provide better support for frontline organisations by transforming local infrastructure services. The project will, over the next 18 months, enable partners in Gloucestershire to provide increased high quality support to VCOs in the county in response to new needs resulting from the changing external environment in which they are now operating.

The four strands of work that will be undertaken are –

  1. To transform the VCS Assembly so that VCOs can continue to influence public sector decisions about commissioning strategies and services despite reduced funding to support the Assembly's work
  2. To merge existing organisations to provide a single point of contact for more effective specialist support to VCOs working with children and young people
  3. To transform the way that volunteers are matched with the needs of frontline organisations to make more effective use of the skills and resources being offered
  4. To create a sustainable service that will support the private sector to contribute towards the work of the VCS in Gloucestershire.

The project's priorities are in response to the issues raised by the many frontline organisations that took part in a consultation back in the summer. These views were then further developed by a wider partnership of over 10 local infrastructure organisations that worked together to formulate the bid. The consortium which will now work with GAVCA to deliver the project consists of PATA, Glos Council for Voluntary Youth Services and Fair Shares.
