Fair Shares began working with participants in Newent back in the spring of 1999. Spaces for regularly meeting up in the community, involvement in local events and trips out to places of interest have always been important. These things sit alongside the exchanges of time and skills that are at the heart of the time bank.
Currently Fair Shares in Newent meets every Tuesday at Ross Willis Court for a welcoming coffee morning, including delicious bacon rolls prepared by a Court resident and plenty of time for conversations and friendship. Participants from the Newent area share the comfortable lounge with residents and staff; this partnership with Housing & Care 21 facilitates the hosting of this valued time to organise exchanges, plan outings and support each other. A popular event at the Court is a Quiz which we try to hold every few months and is well supported by everyone in it’s organisation and participation.
On Thursdays we have a participant ‘get together’ at The George Hotel; this more central location has been preferred by some and welcomes new participants. From there, summer walks are taking place and people call by on their way to or from the shops.
Fair Shares runs its own annual Odd Job Week in April, has a stall at the Annual Newent Onion Fayre in September and always has a good Knees Up at Christmas!
