Exploring Alney Island

23rd June 2025
Meyrick from Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust gave us a guided tour around Alney Island.

It’s amazing to think such a green place is so near Gloucester city centre. We all enjoyed the walk, as well as learning about the Ermine moths and their webs, Himalayan Balsam, the Black Poplar trees he planted, and how Alney Island helps with floods. We finished the walk at Over Bridge, where we looked out at trains passing over the Severn. It was also great to be joined by St James City Farm & Riding School Gloucester volunteers too.

Our thanks to Meyrick and GWT for showing us around.
