Fair Shares participant Laura, celebrates her 90th birthday

21st July 2016

Laura Twisse, a Fair Shares participant, celebrated her 90th Birthday this week. Laura attends the Fair Shares art group run at the centre every week but also helps out in her community. In previous years she has given talks in local schools to discuss her experiences of being a Land Girl in the Second World War. She recalls that even though she was one of the youngest in her group at 17, she was made the supervisor and was responsible for arranging the work parties as well as dealing with the well being of the women in her charge. Laura used to drive a big lorry with all the women in it, out to the different farms each day and drop off so many at each farm; staying to work at the furthest one for the day. In the evening, she collected all the women back again to take them to their base. Laura has a wonderful wealth of stories to tell about this time in her life.
