Spring at the Allotment

23rd February 2021

Now that Spring is in the air we’ve began our preparations down at the allotment. Paths have been tidied, raised beds fixed and netting added to the fruit cage. More bulbs have been planted and seed potatoes are chitting – a process where light encourages shoots to appear before planting. We also planted some broad beans and began discussing what other sorts of things we could grow aside from the usual vegetables.

Some participants also fixed the bird table and we’ve been lucky to see some robins, a wren and a blue tit enjoying the seeds.

Thanks to a huge donation from Hayloft, organised by Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, we also gave out a bunch of tulip, allium and anemone bulbs. We gave some of these out for free to our participants, and planted the remainder around the local community.
