How to Do It Yourself

19th June 2026

Gavin, our DIY timebroker, has been helping people across Gloucester build their practical skills.

One of his first assignments was working with some of the mums at The Family Haven. By providing advice and a guiding them through simple DIY tasks you may find around the home, he was able to improve their confidence with tools and enable them to handle simple fixes.

The photos below are from one session where he showed them how to fill unused holes and how to make new ones! For example – how to pick the right drill bit, which wall plug to use, getting a smooth finish with filler, or how to fix a perfectly straight photo frame.

He’s not just been helping inside though, he’s also helped participants with ourdoor tasks. Gavin spent some time helping Sameera from The Friendship Cafe do a quick fix on her car after it was unfortunately bumped into when parked.

He showed her how to remove the wheel so they could get access to the fog light and behind the bumper. This allowed them to then give it all a clean, firmly reattach the fog light, and give the bumper some extra support behind where it had cracked.

These are two examples of the work he’s been doing, in amongst helping improve the allotment facilities and supporting our youth work.
