Last year NHS Gloucestershire picked a number of community groups to support in providing free, accessible blood pressure checks to the wider community. We were chosen, and after undergoing some training have started providing these checks to participants who come along to our lunch club, or those who pop into our allotment.
For a lot of people going to their GP or other health providers can be uncomfortable. By providing them with a non-clinical, familiar setting, they’re more at ease and willing to undergo the check. Some participants have even turned it into a routine – every week when they turn up to our lunch club, they first sit down and get a blood pressure reading.
We’re going to be continuing with this project for the whole year, so if you’d like to get your blood pressure checked then please do visit our weekly lunch club at The Friendship Cafe. A member of staff will be in the hall with a blood pressure machine from around 12.15pm onwards with food being served at 12.30pm.
