Martin Surl recognising the achievement of our young participants

Police and Crime Commisioner Martin Surl came along to our end of year gathering for the Fair Shares Youth Project. Young people involved in this project take part in all sorts of community activities with a focus on DIY and gardening. They give their time and help out other people in the community as well as learn some new skills and gain confidence.

This work has been funding through the PCC and we work very collaboratively with the Gloucestershire Youth Support Team. Together we find young people who might enjoy volunteering in the community and then finding them interesting and worthwhile things to do.

Some examples of the work they been involved with are: clearing away an overgrown walkway for a residential home, painting a mural in a community centre, tidying up gardens for elderly participants, helping to organise the Fair Shares European conference, putting together flat pack furniture, making wooden cheeseboards, helping out at the Dean Heritage centre and learning how to crochet!

Here you can see Martin handing out certificates to some of the young people involved.
